La Leyenda Mezcal Añejo is a Mexican mezcal rested in oak, a style that softens the smoke and pulls the spirit toward the whiskey end of the shelf. Añejo mezcal is far less common than joven, and the barrel time changes the balance completely: roasted agave and wood smoke sit behind vanilla and dried fruit on the nose, the palate turns sweet and rounded with caramel, cooked agave, a little cinnamon and a smouldering ember note, and the finish is long, warm and gently smoky rather than sharp. This is a sipping bottle, not a mixer. Pour it neat in a copita, or over one big cube after dinner.
