Larceny Barrel Proof is the uncut, unfiltered version of Heaven Hill's wheated bourbon, released three times a year with a batch code that tells you which run you have. Batch A125 is the first release of its year. Wheat stands in for rye as the secondary grain, so the whiskey trades pepper for a rounder, softer sweetness, and taking it to barrel proof makes that sweetness heavier rather than sharper. Brown sugar and baked apple on the nose, caramel, vanilla and soft bread dough on the palate with oak spice behind it, and a long warm finish. Neat with a few drops of water, or in a wheated old fashioned.
