Martingale Cognac Batch 0002 is a small-batch bottling from the Cognac region of western France, released in numbered batches rather than as one fixed blend. Cognac is twice distilled from white wine grapes in copper pot stills and matured in French oak, and that oak is what turns a lean, high-acid base wine into something round and dried-fruited. Expect apricot, raisin and vanilla on the nose, a palate of baked pear, toffee and light floral spice, and a finish that runs warm with oak and orange peel. The 375ml format is a sensible way to meet a batch. Drink it neat in a tulip glass, or build a sidecar.
