About this bottle
Mary Dowling Bourbon Winter Wheat is named for the Kentucky distillery owner who kept whiskey moving through Prohibition by rebuilding her operation across the border in Mexico, one of the more remarkable stories in American whiskey. This bottling uses winter wheat as the secondary grain, and wheat behaves very differently to rye: softer, rounder, no pepper to speak of. Look for caramel, honeyed bread and vanilla on the nose, a palate of butterscotch, baked apple and toasted grain, and a finish of soft oak and brown sugar that fades slowly. An easy pour for anyone who finds high-rye bourbon sharp. Drink it neat, or over one large cube.
