About this bottle
Metaxa 7 Star is a Greek spirit blended by the Metaxa house in Athens from aged brandy distillates and Muscat wines from the islands of Samos and Lemnos, then rounded out with a small addition of Mediterranean botanicals — a recipe the company has kept secret since 1888. The star rating refers to the average age of the brandy component in the blend rather than a single vintage, and because of the added wine and botanicals Greek and EU law doesn't classify Metaxa as a true brandy at all. Expect a sweet, fruity nose with dried fig and rose, and a smooth, honeyed palate with a spiced, faintly resinous finish. Best served neat or over ice as an after-dinner sipper.
How to drink Metaxa 7 Star
Greeks traditionally drink it neat or over ice after a meal, the same way you'd pour a young cognac, and that's still the best way to taste the Muscat wine coming through. It also has a long history as the base spirit in a Greek-style Metaxa sour, built with lemon and simple syrup.

It's commonly mixed with cola over ice, though it also works in place of brandy in a Sidecar or Metaxa Sour.
What does the '7 Star' designation mean?
Metaxa grades its blends by a star rating instead of an age statement; 7 Star is a richer, more matured blend than the 5 Star bottling.
