About this bottle
Mezcal Aleron is made from agave Cenizo, the agave of Durango in northern Mexico, rather than the espadin that dominates Oaxaca. Cenizo takes well over a decade to mature in the high desert, and mezcal made from it tends to run leaner and more mineral than its southern cousins, with the smoke sitting alongside the agave rather than on top of it. Expect wood smoke, green herbs and citrus peel on the nose, a palate of roasted agave, black pepper and wet stone with a faint sweetness underneath, and a finish that is dry, smoky and long. Sip it neat at room temperature in a copita or a clay cup.
