Nulu Double Oak Wheated Old Fashioned is a ready-to-pour old fashioned built on wheated bourbon from Nulu in Louisville, Kentucky. Wheat in place of rye trades the pepper of a standard mash for a softer, rounder sweetness, and the double oak treatment stacks a second layer of char and wood spice underneath the sugar and bitters that finish the drink in the bottle. The nose is caramel, orange peel and toasted oak; the palate is brown sugar, dark cherry and vanilla with a bitter edge that keeps it from turning cloying; the finish is warm. Pour it over one large cube, stir briefly, add an orange twist.
