Oceano Azul Serpente d'Oro Anejo is a tequila anejo presented in a coiled-serpent decanter. Anejo is a regulated category rather than a style claim: the spirit has to rest at least a full year in oak barrels of 600 litres or less, and that year shows up in both the colour and the softness of the pour. Expect roasted agave and vanilla on the nose, a rounded palate of caramel, dried orange peel and toasted oak, and a warm finish carrying cinnamon and a little cocoa. This drinks best neat in a copita at room temperature, where the oak has room to open. It also makes a rich, agave-forward old fashioned.
