About this bottle
Ola Distillery First Release Okolehao is a Hawaiian spirit distilled from the roasted root of the ti plant, a tradition that dates to the late 1700s and very nearly disappeared in the twentieth century. The root is slow-cooked until its starches turn to sugar, then fermented and distilled, a method closer to how mezcal is made than to anything built from grain. Expect a nose of baked sweet potato, molasses and green cane, a palate that runs earthy and lightly smoky with vanilla and tropical fruit behind it, and a dry, mineral finish. Try it neat first to understand it, then use it in a mai tai in place of aged rum.
