Opus One Napa Red 1.5L

Opus One is the Napa Valley Bordeaux blend born from the partnership between Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild, grown on estate vineyards in and around Oakville. Cabernet Sauvignon leads, with Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec filling in around it, and the wine spends its time in French oak before release. The nose runs to cassis, violet and cedar; the palate is dense but composed, with black cherry, graphite and dark cocoa carried on fine-grained tannin; the finish is long and savoury. The magnum format slows the ageing curve, so this is the bottle to lay down. Decant an hour and pour alongside rare ribeye.
