Night Sage is an Orphan Barrel release, the Diageo series built around parcels of old whiskey found sleeping in warehouses and bottled as they are rather than folded into a bigger brand. This one carries a 25 year age statement, which puts it among the oldest whiskey you will find on a shelf in any given year, and stock like that does not get replaced. Long maturation shows up as deep colour and heavy wood influence: dried fig, tobacco leaf and old leather on the nose, then baking spice, dark caramel and polished oak across the palate, with a dry, tannic finish. Pour a small measure neat and give it ten minutes.
