About this bottle

Castello Banfi's Poggio alle Mura Brunello di Montalcino 2015 is a single-vineyard selection from the hillside around Banfi's namesake castle in the southwestern corner of Montalcino, a step up from the estate's standard Brunello bottling. Like all Brunello, it's 100% Sangiovese Grosso, aged under DOCG rules that require extended time in oak followed by further bottle age before release. The wine shows ripe red and dark fruit with dried herb and mineral notes on the nose, while the palate brings dark cherry, leather, and tobacco over a firm, structured tannin frame that carries into a long, intense finish. It's a wine built to reward cellaring and suits a serious Tuscan-style dinner more than a casual pour.

How to drink Poggio alle Mura Brunello

Decant it for an hour if you're opening it young — the tannin needs air to unwind. Serve around 63-65°F in a large-bowled glass with bistecca alla fiorentina, roasted game, or a well-aged pecorino, food substantial enough to meet the wine's structure.
