Laughton Bros. Bourbon comes from Quincy Street Distillery in Riverside, Illinois, and carries the name of the Laughton brothers, two of the earliest distillers to set up along the Des Plaines River. It wears a two-year age statement, which is a real one: young bourbon that has not been hidden behind a No Age Statement label. Youth shows in a good way here, with sweet corn, vanilla and fresh sawn oak on the nose, caramel and cereal sweetness on the palate lifted by bright young-grain spice, and a short, sweet, lightly oaky finish. Mix it — this is a whiskey sour and a boulevardier bourbon.
