Rare Character Brook Hill is a fifteen-year-old straight rye, an age almost nothing in the category reaches, since most rye is bottled long before the oak gets this much say. Fifteen years turns the grain's sharp pepper into something deeper and drier, with the wood doing as much talking as the mash. Expect old leather, tobacco and dark fruit on the nose, a palate of rye spice, cocoa, stewed plum and firm oak tannin, and a long finish that fades slowly toward dry wood. Drink it neat from a Glencairn and give it ten minutes; ice would only cost you detail.
