Rare Character Limited Release Straight Rye Batch No. 2 is a small batch of mature rye barrels married together by a Kentucky house best known for hunting down single barrels worth bottling on their own. Batching a handful of them lets the blenders round off the edges while keeping the rye character intact. Expect mint, dill and brown sugar on the nose, a palate of black pepper, dark caramel, dried cherry and cocoa, and a dry, spicy finish that holds. Drink it neat to read the grain, or let it take over a Manhattan or Sazerac where softer whiskey would vanish under the vermouth.
