Real Minero Barril is a single-varietal mezcal from Real Minero, a family palenque in Santa Catarina Minas, Oaxaca, one of the few producers still distilling in clay pots rather than copper or steel, a method that predates most modern mezcal equipment and gives a heavier, more mineral spirit. Barril agave is a wild-growing varietal less common than espadín, adding its own earthy character on top of the clay-pot distillation style. Expect a smoky, earthy nose with a distinct clay-pot minerality, a rich, textured palate, and a long, dry finish. Highly regarded among mezcal specialists.
