About this bottle
Kavalan Solist Vinho Barrique is a single cask, cask-strength single malt whisky from Kavalan Distillery in Yilan, Taiwan, one of the youngest distilleries to earn a serious global reputation, finished in barrels that previously held Portuguese wine. Taiwan's hot, humid climate accelerates maturation dramatically compared to Scotland, so Kavalan's whiskies pack in more barrel influence per year than most single malts manage. This particular cask is a Reserve Bar retailer exclusive selection, and as with all Solist releases, each cask is bottled individually at its own natural proof rather than diluted to a standard strength. Expect deep red fruit and wine-cask sweetness layered over Kavalan's tropical, honeyed house character.
How to drink Kavalan Vinho Barrique
Add a few drops of water before your first sip — cask strength single malts from Kavalan often run well above 55% ABV, and a little dilution lets the wine-cask fruit come forward. It's a sipping whisky through and through, not a mixer.
