Clément is a rhum agricole producer from Martinique, which means it's distilled from fresh-pressed sugarcane juice rather than molasses, the more common base for rum elsewhere in the Caribbean — that difference is what gives agricole rhum its distinct grassy, vegetal edge. Martinique also holds an AOC designation for rhum agricole, similar to the protections given to Cognac or Champagne, and Clément's estate at Habitation Clément is one of the region's most historic. VSOP means this expression is aged a minimum of three years in French oak, softening the raw cane character with vanilla and gentle spice while keeping real sugarcane freshness underneath.
