Rhum J.M Small Batch American Oak is a Martinique agricole rhum from the 2015 harvest, distilled from fresh cane juice grown on volcanic soil below Mount Pelée and aged in American oak. American oak is the softer, sweeter of the two woods the estate works with, so this leans toward vanilla and coconut where the French oak bottlings lean dry and tannic. The nose is cane syrup, vanilla and baked banana; the palate is round, with caramel, toasted coconut, light pepper and the grassy agricole thread; the finish is medium and warm. Pour it neat, or build a rhum old fashioned with a bar spoon of cane syrup.
