About this bottle
DESCRIPTION
RY3 14 Year is a single-barrel, cask-strength American light whiskey — and "light" here is a category, not a warning. Light whiskey isn't low-proof or low-calorie; it's distilled to a higher proof than bourbon and aged in used or uncharred oak, so it comes out smoother and less oak-and-caramel heavy. This one is fourteen years of that, distilled at the old Seagram's plant in Indiana (now MGP) and bottled by Phenomenal Spirits raw and non-chill filtered at cask strength, well north of 120 proof. The age gives it real depth for the category: cinnamon and tobacco, orange peel, and a light oak backbone, with the concentration you'd expect from an uncut single barrel. It's a one-barrel run, so it's gone when it's gone. Sip it neat, with water on hand for the proof.
TASTING NOTES
Color: Golden amber.
Nose: Cinnamon and tobacco, orange peel, and vanilla, over light oak.
Palate: Concentrated but smooth — vanilla and light caramel, orange peel, cinnamon, and a coconut-tropical edge from the long aging.
Finish: Long and warm, cinnamon and orange over soft oak.
HOW TO DRINK
Neat, and keep water nearby — cask strength above 120 proof rewards a few drops to open it up. Because it's light whiskey, it drinks smoother than a bourbon at the same proof, so don't let the number scare you off. It's a sipper, not a mixer; a single-barrel this old deserves a glass and some time.
