RY3 Cask Strength Madeira Cask Finish is a rye whiskey moved into Madeira casks for a second maturation and bottled at full strength. Madeira is a fortified wine heated during ageing, and casks that held it tend to leave dried fruit and a faint nutty oxidation behind rather than the jammy sweetness of a sherry finish. Here that reads as raisin and fig on the nose, a palate of rye pepper, walnut, dark caramel and stewed plum, and a long finish that turns dry at the close. Pour it neat, add water in drops if the strength shuts it down, or stir it into a Manhattan.
