About this bottle

Sazerac Rye is the Kentucky straight rye whiskey behind America's first branded cocktail, first stirred on Royal Street in 1800s New Orleans. Buffalo Trace distills it at 90 proof with a profile built for that glass: clove, vanilla, anise, and pepper on the nose, candied spice and citrus through the palate, and a smooth finish carrying hints of licorice. Regulars call it Baby Saz to set it apart from its 18-year sibling, and it earns the affection — spicy without sharpness, sweet without going soft. Build it into a proper Sazerac with absinthe and Peychaud's bitters, or pour it neat and taste why a city named a cocktail after it.

How to drink Sazerac Rye

Skip the ice on this one — the spice and citrus carry better at room temperature, which is also why the cocktail itself gets stirred, not shaken, and served up with no cubes. Short on absinthe? A rinse of Herbsaint works the same trick if that's what's behind your bar.
