Sextro Rye Purple Label is an American rye whiskey, part of a colour-coded lineup in which each label marks a different recipe and barrel selection. Rye swaps bourbon's corn sweetness for pepper and dry structure, which is exactly why it makes such a durable cocktail whiskey and why bartenders keep a bottle within reach. Look for a nose of clove, orchard fruit and light vanilla, a palate of cracked black pepper, rye bread crust and caramelised sugar, and a finish that dries out slowly with mint and oak behind it. Pour it neat, add a single large cube if the spice runs hot, or build a Manhattan around it.
