Seaside Gin is Sheringham Distillery's flagship, distilled on Vancouver Island, British Columbia with hand-harvested winged kelp gathered from the coastline near the distillery. This release is Batch 1760 from 2021. The kelp is what makes it distinctive, adding a faint saline lift that sits underneath the more familiar juniper and citrus rather than replacing them. The nose is lemon peel, juniper and sea air; the palate is soft juniper, coriander and a savoury mineral note; the finish is dry with a saltiness that lingers. It makes an unusually good gin and tonic with a lemon twist, and a martini that leans savoury rather than sweet.
