This is the St. George Spirits 40th Anniversary Edition single malt, bottled in 2022 to mark four decades of distilling in Alameda, California. St. George was making American single malt long before the category had a legal definition, working from malted barley in a house that began with fruit eau de vie, and anniversary bottlings like this one are released in limited numbers. Expect a nose of dried fig and toasted malt, a palate of cocoa, orchard fruit, nutty malt and warm baking spice, and a long finish with soft oak behind it. Drink it neat in a glencairn and give it time in the glass.
