Romulan Rye is a limited-edition American rye whiskey from the Star Trek Spirits line, bottled at 100 proof in a decanter built for the shelf as much as for the bar. Rye at this strength holds its shape both neat and in a cocktail, which is the whole argument for bottling it here rather than at eighty. Expect a nose of baking spice, mint and dark caramel, a palate of black pepper, rye bread, orange peel and toffee, and a dry, peppery finish that runs longer than the proof suggests. Neat is fine, but it earns its keep in a Manhattan or a Sazerac.
