Finished in chestnut-wood barrels instead of the usual oak, Teeling Single Cask Chestnut is a single malt Irish whiskey from the Dublin distillery. It spent thirteen years maturing — first in ex-bourbon casks, then a spell in chestnut — before going into the bottle from a single cask at 110.2 proof, cask strength and undiluted. Chestnut lends a nutty, tannic edge you will not find in a standard malt: honey and toasted oak layered with dried fruit, warm spice, and a dry, gently smoky close. Pour it neat in a Glencairn and give it air; at this strength a few drops of water opens the nuttier side.
