The Balvenie DoubleWood 17 Year is a Speyside single malt matured first in traditional oak casks, then finished in European oak sherry casks — the 'double wood' the expression is named for. Balvenie is one of the few distilleries that still grows some of its own barley and employs a dedicated coppersmith on site, a level of hands-on production that shows in the whisky's depth. Expect notes of honey, sherry-driven dried fruit and Christmas spice, with a rich, rounded finish deepened by the extra years compared to Balvenie's standard 12 Year DoubleWood.
