About this bottle
The Balvenie 16 Year Old French Oak is finished in French oak casks after its primary maturation, a less common wood choice than the American oak and sherry casks that dominate Balvenie's other core expressions. French oak tends to bring a spicier, drier tannic structure than American oak's vanilla-forward sweetness, so this release sits a little firmer and more structured than Balvenie's DoubleWood or 12 Year. Balvenie still malts its own barley on-site at the distillery, one of the few Speyside producers to do so. Expect honey and vanilla from the base whisky layered against French oak spice. It suits Balvenie fans wanting a drier, more tannic take on the house style.
