The Block Distilling Co is a small Denver producer, and this is its take on amaro — the Italian tradition of macerating bitter roots, barks and citrus peel in spirit, sweetening lightly and letting the result rest. American craft amari tend to lean into local botanicals rather than copy a Piedmont original, and that is the register here. Dried orange peel, root spice and cola nut on the nose; bittersweet herbs, caramel and gentian across the palate; a long, bitter finish that dries out with a sweet echo behind it. Serve it over ice with an orange twist after dinner, or split a boulevardier with it.
