Blanton's Gold Edition is a single barrel Kentucky bourbon from Buffalo Trace, bottled at 103 proof — a meaningful step up from the standard Blanton's, and the extra strength is doing most of the work. Blanton's was the bourbon that started the modern single barrel category in 1984, and every bottle still carries its own barrel and warehouse details on the label along with one of the eight horse-and-jockey stoppers. Orange peel, caramel and warm baking spice on the nose; honey, dark chocolate and clove over a full body; a long, gently drying finish. Neat, or over one large cube. It is hard to find for a reason.
