This is a 19 year old Irish whiskey bottled at cask strength for a retailer selection, which means no water was added between the barrel and the bottle and no two of these bottlings taste quite the same. Nineteen years is a long stretch for Irish spirit, and the extra time in wood shows up as depth rather than heat. Orchard fruit and honey sit on the nose, the palate is rounded with vanilla, baked pear and toasted grain, and the finish turns toward oak spice and dried apricot. Pour it neat first, then add a few drops of water to open the fruit back up.
