About this bottle
DESCRIPTION
Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame Rosé 2012 is a vintage rosé Champagne and the top of the house's range — its prestige cuvée, made only in strong years like this one. The blend is 90% Pinot Noir from grand cru villages, with a splash of still red wine from a single Bouzy parcel folded in; that red-into-white method, rosé d'assemblage, is the one Madame Clicquot pioneered in 1818. It pours salmon-pink with a coppery tint and drinks like structured Pinot as much as sparkling wine — red berries, blood orange, and rose over a brioche depth, with a sharp, lively attack and a long, mineral finish. The 2012 was a warm, ripe vintage, and it shows in the weight. Serve it cold and slow, with fish tartare, blinis, or on its own as the centerpiece of a good night.
TASTING NOTES
Color: Salmon pink with a coppery tint.
Nose: Red berries and blood orange, rose petals, and warm brioche, with a spicy edge.
Palate: A sharp, lively attack, then silky and full — crushed red berry and blood orange over a mineral spine.
Finish: Long and fresh, mineral and persistent.
HOW TO DRINK
Serve it well-chilled but not ice-cold — around 48°F — in a white-wine glass rather than a narrow flute, so the aromatics open. It has the body for the table: fish tartare, blinis and smoked salmon, or pasta with parmesan. This is a bottle for an occasion; give it your attention rather than a plastic cup at a toast.
