Trump Winery Chardonnay comes from the Monticello AVA outside Charlottesville, Virginia, a humid growing region on the eastern flank of the Blue Ridge that produces a leaner style of Chardonnay than California does. Virginia summers demand careful work in the vineyard, and the wines that result lean toward acidity rather than sheer weight. The nose is green apple, lemon curd and a light toasted note, the palate is medium bodied with pear, citrus and a soft creamy texture, and the finish is dry and crisp. Serve it chilled but not ice cold, with roast chicken, crab cakes, or a plate of soft cheese.
