Walt Sonoma Coast Chardonnay 2020 comes from a stretch of California coastline where fog rolls in off the Pacific and slows ripening, which is why Sonoma Coast whites hold their acidity even in warm years. The wine leads with lemon curd, white peach and a little toasted hazelnut on the nose; the palate is layered but taut, with green apple, citrus pith and a creamy mid-palate that never turns heavy; the finish is long, saline and bright. It is a Chardonnay built for the table rather than the cocktail hour. Serve it lightly chilled with roast chicken, crab, or anything that spent time in butter.
