WhistlePig 12 Year Single Barrel is a straight rye whiskey pulled from one cask at twelve years and given a secondary finish, here running in the direction the name suggests — maple and burnt-sugar sweetness layered over the grain. Single barrels are one-off by definition: this cask will not be repeated, and the next one will read differently. Expect maple syrup, vanilla and rye spice on the nose, a palate of burnt sugar, baking spice, caramel and dry pepper, and a long finish that stays sweet before the rye reasserts itself.
