Wild Turkey Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, bottled at 81 proof (40.5% ABV), is the lighter of the two standard proofs Wild Turkey puts out from its Lawrenceburg, Kentucky distillery, the other being the heavier 101. Like every Wild Turkey bourbon, it's distilled from a high-rye mash bill and aged in new, charred American oak barrels. The lower proof brings out a softer side of the house style: vanilla and caramel up front, oak and baking spice underneath, and a warm, easy finish without the bite of the 101. It suits someone who wants Wild Turkey's character in a bourbon built for everyday drinking rather than an occasion pour.
How to drink Wild Turkey 81
Built for the rocks or a highball — the lower proof means it doesn't need water to open up. An Old Fashioned or Whiskey Sour is a fine use for it, but it's affordable enough to keep for everyday pours rather than saving for a special one.
