William Wolf's twelve-year American whiskey is the oldest bottling in a lineup better known for its flavored expressions, and it makes the case that the brand can play things straight. Twelve years in oak does most of the talking here: the nose is caramel, dried fruit and sweet tobacco, the palate settles into toffee, vanilla and baking spice with a wood-driven bitterness underneath, and the finish runs long and dry with old-oak tannin.
