Martin Miller's 9 Moons is a special cask reserve version of the English gin, rested in oak for nine months, which is where the name comes from. The core gin is distilled in England and blended with Icelandic water, and its botanical signature is cool, cucumber-fresh juniper with citrus behind it. Time in wood changes the picture: the nose picks up vanilla, soft spice and dried citrus over the juniper, the palate turns rounder and warmer with cinnamon, orange peel and a faint honeyed note, and the finish is dry and woody and long for a gin. This is not a tonic gin. Sip it neat, or use it in a Martinez.
