Dark 'n' Stormy

Gosling Brothers, Bermuda; a trademarked recipe built on Goslings Black Seal

The Dark 'n' Stormy is ginger beer over ice with Goslings Black Seal rum floated on top, so the dark rum hangs over the pale ginger beer like a storm cloud. Spicy, sweet and refreshing, with an optional squeeze of lime. Made for sailing season.

History

Gosling Brothers traces the drink to Bermuda just after the First World War, when British sailors on shore leave mixed Gosling's Black Seal rum with homemade ginger beer. The name is said to come from a sailor who thought the drink looked like a dark, stormy cloud. Goslings has defended its trademark against rival rum companies and even cocktail blogs.

How are you making it? ⓘ Batching includes dilution water. Pre-batched cocktails need added water to replace the melt from stirring or shaking. We use Jeffrey Morgenthaler's standard: 18% for spirit-forward drinks, 25% for shaken.
