Ardnamurchan Sauternes Cask Release is a Highland single malt from the distillery at Glenbeg on Scotland's west coast, built by independent bottler Adelphi and run on hydro and biomass power at the site. The distillery makes both peated and unpeated spirit, and everything leaves without chill filtration or added color. Sauternes casks push this one sweeter: honeyed apricot and candied lemon on the nose, a palate of barley sugar and orchard fruit with a wisp of smoke underneath, then a finish where the wine sweetness fades out and the peat quietly holds on. Pour it neat and give it ten minutes in the glass before the first sip.
