Chicken Cock Small Batch is a Kentucky straight bourbon from a brand first registered in 1856 in Paris, Kentucky, revived after decades out of production. Small batch means barrels were selected and married in limited numbers rather than dumped by the tank, which tends to give a more consistent, more deliberate pour. New charred oak leaves its usual signature here: caramel, vanilla and toasted grain on the nose, then brown sugar and cinnamon on the palate with a dry oak spine keeping the sweetness in check, and a medium finish that turns lightly peppery. Drink it neat, over a big cube, or in an old fashioned with an orange peel.
