Four Roses famously works with ten recipes — built from two mashbills and five proprietary yeast strains — and the only way to taste a single recipe on its own is through the single barrel program, where a retailer buys an entire barrel to sell exclusively. 

Decoding the OESQ recipe: "O" denotes the Four Roses distillery in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky; "E" is the lower-rye of the two mashbills — 75% corn, 20% rye, 5% malted barley; "S" designates straight whiskey; and "Q" is the yeast strain, which imparts a distinctly floral character. With light floral aromas of lavender, honeysuckle, and rose petals, Q is perhaps the most unique of the five Four Roses yeast strains. With less rye than its B-mashbill counterpart, OESQ gives a slightly sweeter impression — the extra corn complements the floral notes and creates candied flavors that meld with the caramel and vanilla tones drawn from the barrel as the bourbon ages.

In the glass, expect dried apricot, honey, caramel, and green grape over floral undertones on the nose, with vanilla custard, brown sugar, and a sweet, well-integrated palate.
