Hacienda Oponguio Cupreata 750 ml

Hacienda Oponguio Cupreata is a Michoacán mezcal made from agave cupreata, the plant known locally as papalote or chino that grows on the steep volcanic slopes of the state. Michoacán sits at the edge of most mezcal drinkers' maps, and its cupreata expressions tend to run sweeter and more floral than the espadín pours that dominate shelves. The nose is roasted agave, wet stone and green herbs with a thin thread of smoke; the palate is sweet cooked agave, citrus peel and black pepper; the finish is long, mineral and dry. Drink it neat in a copita, in small sips, with nothing chasing it.
