High West Cabernet Barrel Cask Collection 750ml

High West's Cask Collection takes whiskey from the Utah distillery and gives it a second maturation in barrels that previously held Cabernet Sauvignon, a finish that pulls the spirit toward dark fruit rather than simply adding more oak. Wine casks bring tannin and berry weight, and that is the shape of this one: black cherry, blackcurrant and vanilla on the nose, a palate of red fruit, cocoa, caramel and soft baking spice, and a finish where dry tannin trails behind the sweetness rather than sitting on top of it. It makes a good bridge bottle for wine drinkers. Neat, over one large cube, or in a fruit-forward Manhattan.
