La Venenosa 3rd Edición Tabernas Reposado is a raicilla from Jalisco — the same state as tequila but an entirely different tradition, distilled in coastal tabernas by families who have made it for generations. Raicilla is wilder than tequila by nature, and resting it in oak rounds the edges without taming the funk. The nose is cooked agave, tropical fruit and damp earth; the palate is funky and sweet at the same time, with stone fruit, green herbs, pepper and soft oak; and the finish is long, dry and mineral. Drink it neat at room temperature in a small glass and give it time to open.
