Penelope Magic Toast is a four-grain straight bourbon finished with a proprietary blend of toasted, rather than charred, oak staves, then bottled at barrel strength with nothing diluted down. Toasting instead of charring the finishing wood pulls out extra vanilla, baking spice, and dark caramel without the bitterness a hard char can add. The nose carries toasted oak, vanilla, caramel, and brown sugar with warm baking spice; the palate is rich and full — dark caramel, vanilla, toasted oak, cinnamon, and nutmeg; the finish runs long and warming with lingering toasted oak and spice. This is a bigger, more intense version of Penelope's usual smooth, approachable four-grain style. Pour it neat first, then add water in small increments.
