Peroni Nastro Azzurro is Italy's best-known lager, brewed in the crisp, dry continental style and sold in the slim blue-labelled bottles you have seen on every trattoria table. It is built for refreshment rather than complexity: pale gold in the glass, a fast white head, and a clean malt base cut with a firm hop bitterness. The nose is bread crust and a little grassy hop, the palate is dry with a light sweetness and a hint of maize, and the finish snaps shut quickly and cleanly.
