The Distillarium VSOP American Brandy is a grape brandy distilled and aged in the United States, carrying the VSOP designation that borrowed its meaning from Cognac: stocks held in oak for years rather than months. American brandy tends to run rounder and sweeter than its French counterparts, with less of the chalky, floral austerity, and this bottling fits that mould. The nose is dried apricot, vanilla and grape skin; the palate is soft, with candied orange, caramel, baked pear and light oak; the finish is warm and gently sweet. Sip it neat after dinner in a small snifter, or build it into a Sidecar.
