Blanton's Straight From the Barrel is the uncut version of Buffalo Trace's single barrel bourbon: no water added, no batching, so the strength printed on the label changes from barrel to barrel and so does the whiskey inside. Blanton's launched the modern single barrel category in 1984, and this is that idea taken to its logical end. Dense caramel, orange oil and toasted oak on the nose; thick honey, dark chocolate and black pepper on a big, hot palate; a very long oaky finish. Add a few drops of water and watch it open — at full strength it is deliberately unforgiving. Genuinely hard to find in the States.
